Outside mass tourism, there is the local and authentic Mallorca to discover. Hiking from the mountains to the beach is one way to discover the beauty of the Sierra Tramuntana Mountains (World Heritage). You will enjoy gorgeous panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea while walking in local villages and tasting local specialties such as empanadas, cocas and ensaïmada.

The walk starts at the historical village of Esporles (if you are in Palma de Mallorca just let us know and we will organize the transportation for you).

The hike takes 3 and a half hours and follows the historical path used by the post man to go from Esporles to Banyalbufar. The walk is in the shade of the Mediterranean woods. This will give us the chance to discover the local plants and the history of Mallorca through them.

Once you reach the top of the Sierra Tramuntana Mountains, there will be an amazing panoramic view. From that moment, the trail will go down and end in Banyalbufar. While walking, the landscape changes. There is an area of the woods in the countryside, where the historical Arabic “Safareig” is scattered in the private fields. The Safareig is a countryside basin, from the Arab period, that is used to collect the rain water for the dry season.

The local beach of Banyalbufar will be our end point. This is a special stone beach were many locals go and few tourists know. In these clear waters, there is a tiny local harbor that gives a poetic touch to the bay. This beach is perfect for snorkeling and relaxing.

There will be the picnic with local foods (such as “empanadas”, “cocas de trampó” and dessert tasting like “Ensaimada” or “Gató” with almonds…delicious!) and drinks (like local beer, local orange juice and water)! We buy these products at the historical bakery of our village.

About the hike

We will hike on an easy trail that is pretty large and recently restored. The walk takes about 3 and a half hours (including the stops). We will have the following gradients: 300 meters up and almost 400 meters down.

In the unlucky event of really bad weather conditions, we will postpone the tour for the next day. The tour is available all year, but in the winter time it is not possible to swim.

Children are very welcome to join the hike. The walk is not hard. If children are used to walk with parents they can do it without problems.

If you travel with a baby, we advise to carry your child on a back pack to let him relax. The walk is under the trees, in the woods, so there are no problems with the sun.

Children, between the ages of 6 and 11, are welcome on this tour at the rate listed above. Children under the age of 6 can join us free of charge, but we suggest the baby carrier or sling for babies. Please inform us at the time of booking if you’ll be bringing a child.
